This month, we want to highlight TWO powerful volunteers and say thank you to our Volunteers of the Month, Fabiola Garcia and Nicole Knight! We are proud to celebrate Fabiola’s and Nicole’s volunteerism as an employee with United Way of Southern Nevada.
Dana Boldizar, UWSN’s Individual Giving Manager of Women United says Fabi and Nicole both jumped in to assist with counting over 7,500 pieces of clothing during UWSN’s Women United Suit Drive. Even after the drive officially ended, both ladies stepped up to support our women in our community!
What inspired you to volunteer?
Fabiola: My mother. She is always willing to lend a helping hand and has inspired me to be a better human by giving back, whether it is directly or indirectly.
Nicole: I am always inspired to volunteer because I feel like it is important to help others and participate in the community. We all have specific skills and when we utilize those skills it allows us to connect with others, it can help you build upon the skills you already have and use them to benefit the community.
How are you supporting our community through volunteering?
Nicole: I am currently part of two local organizations, where helping to better the community is part of their fabric. I have had the opportunity to utilize my professional skills in finance to help benefit the community by providing workshops to school-age children, teens and seniors.
How has volunteering improved your life?
Fabiola: Volunteering has a positive effect on the community; therefore, it has a positive effect on me. It also makes me happy that I can be a role model to my daughters by showing up and helping out in any way that I can.
Nicole: Volunteering as a family at a very young age was a valuable way to show me firsthand the impact that my actions can have on the community and the world around me in general.
