This month, we want to highlight and say thank you to our Volunteer of the Month, Deena Gaither! We are proud to celebrate Deena’s volunteerism as an employee with NV Energy, one of our largest corporate partners. Deena is passionate about volunteering with local veterans’ organizations to provide support to those who have served. What inspired you to volunteer?
The Veteran’s that I met at American Legion Post 8 during a visit back in January 2022. Listening to their stories and learning that most of them have no families here in Las Vegas. All of my uncles were in the military, and my husband (deceased) was a Marine.
How are you supporting our community through volunteering?
We participate in Patriot Guard duties at Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Boulder City. Giving back with what I’m good at. Cooking meals and making sandwiches for the Veterans and Homeless throughout the Las Vegas area with the other Volunteers of the American Legion Post 8.
What does it mean to work for a company like NV Energy that encourages giving back to our community?
It makes me proud that the company I work for cares about the community and encourages volunteerism no matter how large or small that act may be.
How has volunteering improved your life?
It brings joy to my heart to see the things we do put a smile on someone’s face. Whether it’s delivering food to the homeless or helping prepare meals at American Legion Post 8. You can truly see the appreciation on their faces.
