We are thrilled to welcome Mariah Najera to our United Way of Southern Nevada (UWSN) team! Mariah joins us as a Public Policy Intern in our External Affairs Department, bringing her passion for community engagement and advocacy to our organization.
In her own words, Mariah describes her role at UWSN, “This summer, I am working on three projects with the UWSN External Affairs department, Policy and Advocacy, The Language Access Policy Summit, and The Democracy Fellowship program. For the fellowship, I am leading curriculum development and outreach. For the Language Access Summit, I am helping with planning, including setting goals and creating materials. In my policy work, I am facilitating meetings with UWSN partners to focus our policy priorities. Additionally, I am attending United Way’s Advocacy Forum, Clark County meetings, and visiting local organizations.”
What inspired Mariah to join Team UWSN? “I am moved by the UWSN Team’s dedication to understanding the community it serves. From my experience thus far, it is clear that public wellbeing is at the core of the team’s work. The office is also a space of collaboration, and there is a true sense of genuineness amongst coworkers!”
When she’s not interning, Mariah enjoys dancing, going on long walks, listening to music, and making playlists (she has over one hundred of them!). Her must-do activity when visiting Las Vegas? “Visit the myriad of restaurants and coffee shops the city has to offer!” she says.
We are so excited to have Mariah on the team this summer! We can’t wait to see what you’ll achieve and learn! Learn more about UWSN’s Language Access Policy Summit here and Democracy Fellowship here.
