United Way Of Southern Nevada Supports University Of Nevada Las Vegas Super Bowl Student Internship Program

The UNLV Sports Research and Innovation Initiative Special Events Internship Program leads a future generation of professionals with support from United Way of Southern Nevada, Las Vegas Super Bowl LVIII Host Committee, and UNLV Sports Research and Innovation Initiative

LAS VEGAS – Empowering the next generation of sports professionals, United Way of Southern Nevada (UWSN) is providing funding to the UNLV Sports Research and Innovation Initiative Special Events Internship Program. This internship program provides University of Nevada Las Vegas (UNLV) students an opportunity to expand their knowledge of sports, entertainment, and marketing through a wide array of activities before and during Super Bowl LVIII in 2024. United Way of Southern Nevada is supporting this program with a generous grant of $100,000 over the next two years.

We look forward to watching them shine as they gain incredible on-the-job experience working with the Super Bowl and other large-scale events.”

“We are fortunate to have great partners in United Way and UNLV to support the creation of this innovative internship program,” says Sam Joffray, President & CEO of the Las Vegas Super Bowl LVIII Host Committee. “Our shared belief is that providing students with real-world, event experience is not only valuable for the students, but it also enriches the organization with fresh perspectives and new ideas. And what better hands-on experience than Las Vegas’ first-ever Super Bowl?”

“Through the generosity of the United Way of Southern Nevada and the Super Bowl host committee, the world gets to see how well UNLV prepares its students for the fast-growing field of sports management,” says Jay Vickers, SRII’s chief operations officer. “These interns showcase the best of our university, and we couldn’t be prouder of them.”

The initiative has raised over $300,000 with support from the Las Vegas Super Bowl LVIII Host Committee, United Way of Southern Nevada, and other organizations The goal of the program is to have 45 interns work with the Las Vegas Super Bowl LVIII Host Committee through next year’s Super Bowl. The six UNLV students currently participating in this program include Marley Salveter, Soloman Escalante, Cheyne Sauceda, Gwenyth Burnette, Yanique Olis, and Samantha Huwe all who will help to promote next year’s Super Bowl in Las Vegas.

United Way of Southern Nevada’s contribution will help in the success of college students as well as the overall growth of the city of Las Vegas and the Southern Nevada community. This grant promotes regional excellence in Student Success, one of the key impact pathways advanced by United Way of Southern Nevada.
