United Way Of Southern Nevada Announces Co-Chairs For 65th Anniversary Challenge

Community leaders unite to raise millions for United Way of Southern Nevada

LAS VEGAS – Community icon and honorary campaign chairman of United Way of Southern Nevada’s 65th Anniversary, Don Snyder, has assembled a remarkable collective of community leaders who will serve as Co-Chairs for the United Way of Southern Nevada 65th Anniversary Challenge. This fundraising effort challenges the community to match the monumental donation from philanthropist, MacKenzie Scott.

The 65th Anniversary committee will assist the UWSN Board, also chaired by Snyder, in their efforts to mobilize the Southern Nevada community to raise $10 million in support of the work of UWSN and their 80 community partners.

UWSN is proud of all of the work that has been done to help improve the lives of those in southern Nevada, but the needs of the community continue to grow. There are more than 150,000 students who need assistance from United Way’s pre-k to higher education programs. There are still 365,000 workers seeking full-time employment. There are more than 249,000 people living in poverty in Clark County, and 425,000 are close to the poverty line.

The United Way of Southern Nevada 65th Anniversary Challenge is United Way of Southern Nevada’s recognition of the Seattle-based MacKenzie Scott’s generosity and call to arms to the southern Nevada community to fund solutions to solve the enormous challenges faced by the community.

Snyder states, “This is the United Way of Southern Nevada’s appeal to the generous can-do spirit of the community. We hope Southern Nevadans will join us in making sure that every person who wants to better themselves can and will. By meeting and or exceeding our goal of $10 million dollars, we are ensuring resources are in place so we may move the needle significantly.”

“We could not be more grateful to the legendary Don Snyder for his continued effort and support of our organization,” said Julian High, president and CEO of UWSN. “The individuals who have committed their time and networks to ensure that United Way can continue to serve the tens of thousands of lives throughout our community is remarkable. I am honored to lead this organization and to serve with Don and the committee as we celebrate our 65th anniversary and build a stronger bridge to UWSN’s future.”

The honorary Co-Chairs for the 65th Anniversary Challenge include: Jan Jones Blackhurst, Cedric Crear, Gard Jameson, Dulcinea Rongavilla, Marta Poling Schmitt, Garth Winckler, Jeremy Aguero, Matthew Frazier, Shari Wong, Mike Mungiello and Marianne Boyd Johnson.

In addition to his role as a co-chair, Garth Winckler has joined the United Way of Southern Nevada team as a Special Advisor to the President and CEO of UWSN. With Winckler’s previous tenured experience as a UWSN President and CEO for seventeen years and as a leading expert in nonprofit leadership and fundraising, he will support the organization as they galvanize the Southern Nevada community to give back to ensure United Way’s work continues for years to come.
