United Way of Southern Nevada’s Female Leaders are Transforming Lives as Women United
Women’s Leadership Council celebrates new name at Women United Luncheon on March 6.
LAS VEGAS (January 10, 2020) United Way of Southern Nevada’s (UWSN) Women United, formerly the Women’s Leadership Council, is making a difference for generations to come in Southern Nevada. Our Women’s Leadership Council rebrand is more than just a name change, it emulates a renewed focus on uniting women of the valley to create real change in our community.
UWSN’s Women United Chair, Michelle St. Angelo, shared the inspiration for the transformation. “As an organization, we wanted to adopt a new name that reflects how we unite the power of women in our community to raise awareness, inspire action, and empower each other to build a stronger Southern Nevada. We invite women across the valley to join us and make an impact!”
As a global force, Women United has 75,000+ members committed to making a difference in over 165 communities. Since 2007, UWSN’s Women United has raised nearly $3M, investing dollars in critical projects and organizations. Most recently, Women United joined UWSN donors to invest $1 million over three years to change lives in the Southern Nevada community. Women United provides support for UWSN’s seven funded partners, including Sunrise Children’s Foundation, Girls on the Run Las Vegas, Las Vegas Clark County Library District Foundation, Nevada Health Centers, Leaders in Training, Fulfillment Fund Las Vegas, and Foundation for an Independent Tomorrow.
Women United members are dedicated to supporting emerging female leadership in Southern Nevada and empowering girls from a young age. Through the support of Women United, 8 young women have received college scholarships and 572 girls have built confidence and self-worth through Girls on the Run.
Since its inception, the organization has hosted philanthropic events that make a direct impact in our community. Annually, Women United collects over thousands of items of professional clothing at their suit drive for local women’s return-to-work programs. In total, Women United members have committed over 6,500 volunteer hours through events like the Suit Drive.
In addition to making a difference in our community, Women United provides various engagement opportunities and social events for its members. You can join us to celebrate these empowered female leaders at the Women United Luncheon Fashion Show on March 6, 2020. This event is filled with fashion, food, and fun, with proceeds benefiting the community.
