Beloved campaign assists women on the road to their new careers
LAS VEGAS – United Way of Southern Nevada’s (UWSN) 15th Annual Women United Suit Drive resulted in a monumental success as community members across the valley donated 7,095 pieces of gently-used women’s professional clothing items. The drive took place October 17 through November 4 to support women in return-to-work programs. This year’s efforts were sponsored by the Southwest Gas Foundation, Jacinta Boutique, PNC Bank, NV Energy, Marta & Stefan Schmitt, Julian High-Vaughn & Michael Vaughn, and Siena Italian Trattoria and Deli.
“Our organization works to support our community at every pathway,” said Julian High, president and CEO of UWSN. “Our Women United members and southern Nevada community have continued to raise the bar each year to aid thousands of women in need who are looking to start their career path with a refreshed wardrobe and fresh insight. The response this year has been incredible, and we could not be more grateful to our sponsors for their support.”
The items donated through the 15th Annual Women United Suit Drive will help women prepare for job interviews, enter the workforce, and achieve financial stability. The organizations who will distribute these items to women in return-to-work programs include: Catholic Charities of Southern Nevada, Dress for Success Southern Nevada, Goodwill of Southern Nevada, Tech Impact, Jobs for Nevada’s Graduates, Signs of Hope, The Shade Tree, St. Jude’s Ranch for Children, and UNSHAKEABLE.
UWSN’s Women United members inspire local women to join the worldwide effort to create and inspire the female leaders of tomorrow. Prior to the distribution, the group hosted a Sip & Sort event where volunteers and members sorted through the donated items. Additionally, the group celebrated the successful event on November 9 where over $20,000 in monetary donations were raised at a luncheon , sponsored by PNC Bank, to fund the Women United Emerging Leadership Award for Women, that helps women pursue a college degree and achieve their dreams of higher education.
