UNITED WAY OF SOUTHERN NEVADA COLLECTS OVER 15,000 PROFESSIONAL CLOTHING ITEMS TO EMPOWER WOMEN THROUGH THE 16th ANNUAL SUIT DRIVE

LAS VEGAS (Nov. 17, 2023)United Way of Southern Nevada (UWSN) hosted the 16th annual Women United Suit Drive, which resulted in the most successful suit drive to date. Community members across Southern Nevada donated over 15,474 pieces of gently used professional clothing items and accessories which included blazers, skirts, hospital scrubs, shoes, and more. The items donated will help women in return-to-work programs at local nonprofits prepare for job interviews, enter the workforce, and achieve financial stability.

“Women United is a part of the DNA of United Way of Southern Nevada and we are proud of the profound impact our members make through the Suit Drive each year,” said Julian High, president and CEO of UWSN. “This year, we were able to double the amount of clothing items and accessories collected, which will empower thousands of women in our community who are returning to the workforce.”

After several weeks of collecting women’s attire and accessories, Women United hosted a Sip & Sort event where volunteers and members sorted through the donated goods. The donated pieces will be distributed to twelve different nonprofit organizations including Catholic Charities of Southern Nevada, Dress for Success Southern Nevada, Goodwill of Southern Nevada, Jobs 4 Nevada Graduates, Lighthouse Charities, S.A.F.E. House Inc., The Shade Tree, Signs of Hope, SafeNest, St. Jude’s Ranch for Children, Tech Impact, and UNSHAKEABLE.

Following the successful suit drive, UWSN and Women United hosted the second annual suit drive luncheon at Via Brasil Steakhouse to celebrate the record-breaking number of donated items collected during the drive.  Attendees were able to hear and learn from a dynamic panel of female leaders, including Latoya Holman, Chief Development Officer, The Public Education Foundation; Kat Klehm, Executive Director, Lincoln Dynamic Foundation; Cindy Howarth Trussel, Chief Executive Officer, Lighthouse Charities, and Janet Quintero, Vice President of External Affairs, United Way of Southern Nevada.
