Las Vegas, NV – United Way of Southern Nevada and Congresswoman Lee announced the allocation of $850k for much-needed renovation and infrastructure improvements for Low-Income Tax Assistance Clinics that participated in the VITA program.
The free tax preparation services offered by local VITA providers brought back over $1 million to Nevada and benefited 1,129 families. However, many of these organizations operate at the lowest cost possible – relying on the power of volunteers and donations .
The allocated funds will be available for qualifying organizations participating in the VITA program as VITA site locations. The funds for site rehabilitation, energy efficiency, and ADA improvements were allocated through the Community Project Funding appropriation process and will be managed through T-HUD.
These services offered by VITA partners like the Nevada Free Taxes Coalition, Silverado Tax Coalition, and the Mexican Consulate are critically important during tax season, and after the filing deadline, during which UWSN partners with other organizations to assist in filing extended tax returns, amendments, and additional services.
