United Way Of Southern Nevada Announces 4,511 Local Lives Changed In Community

UWSN distributes nearly $3.2 million to provide hope and help to Southern Nevadans

LAS VEGAS – United Way of Southern Nevada (UWSN) is proud to announce that 4,511 individuals have received the gift of hope through the first round of reporting from the Community Impact Grants awarded to 44 local nonprofits. UWSN has increased its reach to support organizations that are providing direct assistance for first-generation college students, women re-entering the workforce, and after-school programming for children across Southern Nevada.

“We have had the incredible opportunity to help families and children keep a roof over their heads, find good jobs, and receive a quality education through the generous support of our beloved community,” said Julian High, UWSN’s President and CEO. “We invite you to join us and our network of proud nonprofit partners to help provide meaningful change in Southern Nevada for years to come.”

This funding includes generous support from Amazon co-founder and philanthropist, MacKenzie Scott, UWSN’s Women United members, and community donors. As thousands of Southern Nevadans work to rebuild their lives and recover from the economic fallout from the ongoing pandemic, UWSN continues to be a pillar of strength in the community. In the first round of reporting, UWSN and their funded partners have provided:

  • 985 students with access to a quality education from pre-k to graduation
  • 779 people received job training to add to their professional skills
  • 2,747 people obtained health services, temporary housing, or food assistance

To meet the growing needs of the Southern Nevada community, United Way has expanded its community impact grant program to include more than six times the number of nonprofit organizations than in previous years with a focus on diversity, equity, access, and inclusion. The 44 funded organizations were selected through a rigorous community-wide process.

To continue to support the Southern Nevada community now and in the future, UWSN launched the Everyone Deserves Hope Campaign through the support of UWSN’s presenting sponsor, The Tapestry Foundation, and Angel Hero sponsor The Siegel Group (through their charity, Siegel Cares) along with sponsors NV Energy, Barclays US Consumer Bank, Kichler, and Charles Schwab.
