United Way Of Southern Nevada And Clark County Emergency Food And Shelter Program Announces Over $5 Million Available In Funding

Organizations providing emergency food and shelter services are encouraged to apply by February 11, 2022

LAS VEGAS- United Way of Southern Nevada and the Local Board of the Clark County Emergency Food and Shelter Program is proud to announce that Clark County public and private organizations now have the opportunity to apply for $5,805,179 in federal funds for Emergency Food and Shelter Programs (EFSP). EFSP funds are federal funds made available through the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).

During the COVID-19 pandemic, Clark County’s Emergency Food and Shelter Program has distributed $4.1 million to provide over 400,000 meals and more than 46,300 nights of shelter. EFSP funds were also used to support 1,140 households with emergency rental assistance.

To apply, there is a mandatory applicant webinar that organizations must view in order to be eligible to apply. The recorded webinar will be available beginning Monday, January 31, 2022 at uwsn.org/EFSP and must be viewed no later than Friday, February 11, 2022 at 5pm. Applicants must certify that they have viewed the webinar, which includes application instructions and codes.

Under the terms of the grant from the National Board, local agencies chosen to receive funds must:  1) be private voluntary non-profits or units of the government; 2) be eligible to receive federal funds; 3) have an accounting system; 4) practice nondiscrimination; 5) have demonstrated the capability to deliver emergency food and/or shelter programs; 6) if they are a private voluntary organization, have a voluntary board; and 7) be registered with HMIS. The Emergency Food and Shelter Program is overseen by a National Board that is chaired by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency and consists of representatives from American Red Cross, Catholic Charities USA, National Council of the Churches of Christ in the USA, The Jewish Federation of North America, The Salvation Army, and United Way Worldwide. The Local Board is charged to distribute funds appropriated by Congress to help expand the capacity of food and shelter programs in Clark County.

The Local Board for Clark County’s Emergency Food and Shelter Program determines how the federal funds are to be distributed among the emergency assistance programs run by local service agencies in the area. The Local Board is responsible for recommending agencies to receive these funds and any additional funds made available under this phase of the program. Members of the Local Board include representatives from local governments, nonprofit service agencies, and faith-based organizations.
