UNITED WAY OF SOUTHERN NEVADA ACTIVATES EMERGENCY FUND AMID PAUSE IN FEDERAL SUPPORT

LAS VEGAS, NV (June 23, 2025) — United Way of Southern Nevada (UWSN) has activated its Emergency Assistance and Community Needs (EACN) Fund in response to a federal pause on Emergency Food and Shelter Program (EFSP) funding for Clark County.

Since 2020, EFSP has delivered more than $8.5 million in emergency aid to over 680,000 people in Southern Nevada. In 2025 alone, the program was projected to help more than 100,000 individuals.

Due to new guidance from the Office of Management and Budget, the release of more than $1.2 million in Emergency Food and Shelter Program (EFSP) aid has been placed on hold, and local applications have been suspended. EFSP funding supports access to food, rent, utility assistance, and shelter. The pause in funding is expected to impact thousands of individuals and families in Southern Nevada who rely on these essential services.

“Meeting our community’s needs requires both public and private funding,” said Samuel Rudd, President and CEO of United Way of Southern Nevada. “The pause in federal Emergency Food and Shelter Program funds is leaving many nonprofits without reimbursement, forcing them to halt future assistance. Some may not realize how deeply this affects our community, but it could trigger a chain of challenges we can’t yet fully quantify.”

To help fill the gap, UWSN is activating its EACN Fund—a flexible, community-driven resource that delivers relief to Southern Nevadans in crisis. The fund also strengthens the nonprofit partners providing essential services across our region.

The community’s support is critical at this time. UWSN is calling on individuals, businesses, and organizations to donate to the EACN Fund to ensure these vital services can continue uninterrupted. Every gift helps provide support to families in need and strengthens the network of nonprofits that serve Southern Nevada.

UWSN remains in close contact with local partners and federal agencies and will share updates as more information about EFSP becomes available.
