El Shaddai Refuge Homes CDC provides housing and workforce support programs for youth who are aging out of the foster care system. Their programs focus on the development of skills and training. Through our partnership they were able to provide one of their students with training to obtain specific skills for customer service, management, and team relations. Taylor was in foster the foster care system, the house they were in lost their license. El Shaddai Refuge Homes CDC was able to help them to get into one of El Shaddai homes where they joined the program. Thanks to United Way of Southern Nevada, Taylor got to understand customer service firsthand, along with management skills by one-on-one training they received. Taylor has learned how to handle difficult scenarios that may arise when helping customers, although they were able to learn many important skills, they realized retail is something they do not want to do long term and would rather go into childcare. Taylor is now working as a childcare worker and is grateful for the skills gained in El Shaddai’s program funded by UWSN where they were prepared for this new venture.
