Nijel’s Story

When Nevada State high schooler Nijel Murray saw his new foster brother arrive with a trash bag of ill-fitting clothes he was heartbroken. After learning that many foster children use trash bags to transport their hand-me-down clothing, Nijel knew that he wanted to help other children like his brother. Nijel was inspired to start his own nonprofit, Klothes 4 Kids, which has already provided over 2,000 foster children with clothing, toiletries and many other essential items. Nijel dreamed of expanding his nonprofit but couldn’t afford to pursue a business degree. Together, United Way of Southern Nevada and Project 150, are supporting future nonprofit leaders like Nijel by providing a scholarship to UNLV. By pursuing a degree in business, Nijel hopes to expand his nonprofit, so he can continue to make a difference in the lives of thousands of foster children in Southern Nevada. Nijel shared, “They’re used to getting the hand-me-down clothes, the clothes that nobody wants anymore. I always want to make it something that they’re actually going to like, cause that’s what it’s about.” By supporting students like Nijel today, we are helping inspire the leaders of tomorrow who will change our community for the better.
