It is Nethelie’s dream to attend college and be able to support her family. As the oldest child in the family, Nethelie is heavily relied on to help around the house, translate the bills, and take care of her younger siblings. As an immigrant, born in the Philippines with English as a second language, Nethelie was determined to succeed as the first in her family to attend college. After getting enrolled in United Way of Southern Nevada’s partner program, Leaders in Training, Nethelie was able to get connected to resources that helped her apply to over 20 colleges. With over a 4.0 GPA, Nethelie has already been accepted to six of the colleges she applied to. Thanks to the support of United Way of Southern Nevada and Leaders in Training, Nethelie is well on her way to achieving her ultimate goal of becoming a medical professional to end health disparities among marginalized communities. Nethelie says, ”I’m proud of myself for what I’ve worked so hard for, and I enthusiastically look forward to what is to come.”
