A local grandmother, Mindy, was looking for help with gaining legal guardianship of her grandchildren and financial assistance for expenses to support her family. After some research, Mindy reached out to United Way of Southern Nevada’s partner, Foster Kinship. Foster Kinship believes that when children can’t be with their parents, they should be with their family. Thanks to UWSN’s support, Foster Kinship was able to get her Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) benefit switched to Kinship Care with the Division of Welfare, allowing her to receive nearly $1,000 a month in financial support versus the $127 a month she was originally granted by the Division of Welfare. Foster Kinship was also able to assist Mindy with getting her grandchildren’s health insurance benefits extended and provide emotional support to her family. Through your support, UWSN and Foster Kinship helps strengthen kinship caregivers’ capacity to provide safe, stable, and nurturing homes for children throughout our community.
The dollars that you donate to UWSN allows us to support important organizations like Foster Kinship. Thank you, Mindy, for sharing your story and for spreading the message of hope to our community this holiday season.
