Imagine that you are a mother with a young son who recently immigrated to Las Vegas from El Salvador, and you needed legal representation to file for asylum. Where would you turn for support? Thankfully, in a real-life instance, a mom in this very situation was referred to Catholic Charities of Southern Nevada’s Immigration Services program. A funded community partner of United Way of Southern Nevada, CCSN offers food, shelter, housing, and comprehensive services throughout the valley. In addition, CCSN was able to help the mother gain employment authorization—so that she may support her family—as well as social security cards for both mother and son. Thanks to CCSN and support from United Way of Southern Nevada helping navigate the complex asylum and immigration processes, this mother and son have a lifeline of support and can maintain self-sufficiency in their new home.
