A local student named *Ava graduated from Chaparral High School as a proud member of the class of 2022. She worked diligently with her college counselor, Ms. Parker, to navigate the college and financial aid application challenges. This resulted in her choosing the best fit for her and enrolling at Nevada State College. Between high school and college, Ava paid all her deposits, navigated the housing selection process, and prepared to move into her dorm during the first week of school. However, due to financial challenges, she and her family had insufficient resources to provide living supplies for her new dorm room—including the basics like sheets, shower supplies, and cleaning and organization necessities.
Not knowing where else to turn, Ava turned to her college counselor to see if she could help her access assistance. Ms. Parker immediately sprung to action, rallying the entire Fulfillment Fund Las Vegas staff to determine what supplies could be purchased to ensure that our college freshman could move into her dorm and begin her semester with one less worry. FFLV’s mission is to inspire first-generation students and remove barriers to college access and graduation. A funded community partner of United Way of Southern Nevada, the organization helped our student thrive in her classes. With the help of UWSN, FFLV helped Ava self-advocate and be empowered to embark on her college journey successfully.
