Southern Nevadans Unite to Support Those Impacted by COVID-19

United Way of Southern Nevada helps provide over 100,000 immediate basic needs services

United Way of Southern Nevada (UWSN) is proud to announce that over $2.4 million has been distributed to 34 nonprofit organizations to provide urgent housing, shelter, food, and utility assistance to help those impacted by COVID-19.

“As COVID-19 cases continue to rise in Southern Nevada, we are counting on our community to donate now more than ever to help all of our neighbors, family members, and friends,” shared Kyle B. Rahn, President & CEO of United Way of Southern Nevada. “When you give, you help our community recover and ensure that local families can keep a roof over their heads and food on the table.”

Since the creation of the UWSN Emergency Assistance and Community Needs Fund on March 18, 2020, UWSN has given hope to Southern Nevada and provided essential help for the community, including:

  • 1,397 months of rent and mortgage assistance
  • 70,699 meals provided
  • 28,615 nights in emergency shelter provided
  • 762 utility bills paid

With the generous support of community partners like the Nevada Attorney General, NV Energy, Bank of America, the Wells Fargo Foundation, and Barclays, funds from the UWSN Emergency Assistance and Community Needs Fund were distributed through five phases. 34 agencies received funding for rent and mortgage assistance, served meals and food assistance, emergency shelter housing, and utility assistance. To ensure accountability of the distribution of funds, UWSN followed the same stringent guidelines it utilized for the administration of Emergency Food and Shelter Program funds through the Federal Emergency Management Agency.

Over 50 organizations requested over $5 million in funding from the UWSN Emergency Assistance and Community Needs Fund. UWSN needs the community’s support now more than ever to help meet the growing need in Southern Nevada. UWSN is encouraging organizations and individuals to donate at uwsn.org/donate or by texting “UWSNFUND” to 313131.
