LAS VEGAS – As COVID-19 cases continue to soar in Southern Nevada, access to essential services is critical for individuals, families, and children across the valley. United Way of Southern Nevada (UWSN) is proud to announce that 12 of our nonprofit partners were recommended to receive $2.4 million in federal funds through Phase 37 of the Emergency Food and Shelter Program (ESFP) and CARES ACT supplemental funding, which are awarded through the Department of Homeland Security.

Rahn, President & CEO of United Way of Southern Nevada. “Through this funding, our nonprofit partners can provide relief and encourage recovery in our community.”
In Southern Nevada, the EFSP provides a network of resources for those struggling to keep a roof over their heads and food on the table. With these funds, our nonprofit partners will provide essential services such as food, shelter, and utility assistance. The supplemental CARES Act funding will ensure that Southern Nevadans receive the tools they need to recover from the rippling effects of the COVID-19 pandemic. This funding will provide financial support in addition to the over $2 million already invested through UWSN’s Emergency Assistance and Community Needs Fund, funded through individual donors and community supporters such as the Nevada Attorney General, NV Energy, Bank of America, Wells Fargo, and many more.

A local board made up of local government, non-profit organizations and United Way of Southern Nevada determined how the funds awarded to Clark County were distributed among the emergency food and shelter programs run by local service agencies in the area. The Local Board is responsible for recommending agencies to receive these funds and any additional funds made available under this phase of the program.
