Nonprofit VITA Sites Rehabilitation Program

Helping Nonprofits Strengthen Free Tax Services

NONPROFITS - APPLY TODAY

Funding Notice: This program relies on support from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). If HUD funding is paused or reduced, program dates and awards may be delayed or adjusted.

United Way of Southern Nevada (UWSN) is investing in nonprofit Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) sites to make them more energy-efficient, safe, and accessible. These upgrades help nonprofits focus on what matters most—serving our community with free, reliable tax help.

This program is funded through a federal grant secured with the support of Congresswoman Susie Lee (NV-03) and administered by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD).

Why This Matters

VITA sites provide free tax preparation for low- and moderate-income households. By improving these facilities, nonprofits can:

  • Save money on utility bills

  • Create safer, more welcoming spaces

  • Serve more residents with free tax assistance

Since 2009, UWSN has supported over 1.3 million taxpayers, helping claim more than $1.9 billion in refunds and saving millions in tax prep fees.

Program Objectives

  • To allocate funds to 8 eligible nonprofit organizations whose proposed projects align with key goals of improving energy efficiency and accessibility.
  • To ensure that all funded activities meet HUD section 3, federal labor standards, and Build America, Buy America Act requirements
  • To reach expected outcomes of reduced energy consumption, improved facility access, and increased capacity to deliver VITA services to local residents
