United Way of Southern Nevada was pleased to have Aubrie Curci as a Marketing Coordinator during the summer months. Aubrie, who is starting her senior year at UNLV, completed a summer internship at UWSN where she worked with the marketing team. Read about Aubrie’s experience in her blog below.
During my internship at United Way of Southern Nevada (UWSN), I have grown both professionally and personally. This experience has enabled me to explore various aspects of my professional self and has helped me determine the career path I want to take. Throughout my internship, I have gained various skills that will prepare me for my future career.
My first day at UWSN was not the typical intern orientation. I joined the UWSN team at their annual Golf United Benefit and took pictures at the event. While not a regular day at the office, I was able to see my co-workers in action at this fantastic fundraising event.
During my internship, the main projects I worked on were creating marketing materials, coordinating media interviews, and developing content for UWSN’s social media. Specifically, I worked with the team to develop social media and website content for our Stuff the Bus and Day of Caring events. It was amazing to see my work inspire members of our community to participate in our events and make generous donations.
Throughout my internship, my supervisors and co-workers have taught me the value of collaborating with a team whose members are dedicated, hardworking, and passionate about what they do. During our meetings, I enjoyed participating in brainstorming sessions about our strategies and projects for the week. My team always made sure to create a space that allowed for the free expression of ideas and I felt confident sharing my thoughts with my team.
Overall, through the guidance and support provided by my team at UWSN, I was able to discover new aspects of my professional self. My internship with UWSN has inspired me to consider a career in the non-profit sector. After completing my internship, I feel prepared to enter the professional world and I will utilize the knowledge I have gained to begin my journey on a new career path.
