UWSN’s Language Access Policy Summit

August 2 | 9 AM - 1 PM

Las Vegas City Hall (495 S Main St. Las Vegas, NV 89101)

During our summit, we will focus on the following policy areas:

  • Workforce Development: Supporting pathways and easing challenges to compose a knowledgeable, prepared workforce
  • Student Success: Ensuring students have access to the learning opportunities and resources to succeed from Pre-K to higher education.
  • Community Supports: Reviewing how the variety of community services that provide stability to Nevadans, including housing, food access, and healthcare, can be made accessible regardless of ability or language-spoken. [Breakout has hit capacity and is CLOSED]
  • Democracy and Civic Participation: Encouraging engagement with all levels of government  and strengthening public understanding and participation of the democratic process

Frequently Asked Questions

We ask that attendees park in the parking garage adjacent to and west of City Hall. Parking will be validated at check-in.

Yes! Breakfast will provided at the beginning of the summit from 9 – 9:30AM and snacks will be provided in all breakout rooms.

During the summit, we will cover issues relating to workforce development, education, civic engagement, and issues facing direct-service providers. Participants will receive a guidebook to follow along with the resources, trainings, and breakout sessions we’ll host for the day. After the summit, a digital version of the guidebook will be available for download on this webpage.

As part of our $1 million appropriation from Congresswoman Dina Titus, we are proud to offer readily-available document translation and over-the-phone/live translation services to nonprofits and local governments. For more information, please visit our Language Access page.

Unfortunately, the summit will be an in-person event only, however we are more than happy to share all summit materials and notes with interested community members. Additionally, UWSN hosts our monthly Cross-Sector Language Access calls — which convenes local governments, nonprofits, and community members on a regular basis to share updates and language access resources. If you are interested in being added to those calls, please email Henry Rosas, External Affairs Manager, at henryr@uwsn.org
