Women United continues to empower the next generation of women leaders by providing financial assistance to underrepresented and low-income students. To date, we have invested $170,000 to support nine local female students, like Katie. Katie applied for the Emerging Leadership Award for Women scholarship to help her through her college journey to pursue her dreams of becoming a hospice nurse.
Katie shared what inspired her to pursue a career as a hospice nurse, “I lost my father in [a] hospice and gained a passion for taking care of a person’s mind, body, and soul and providing compassionate care for both the patient and family.” After graduation, Katie took her NCLEX exam and started working as a nurse for Nathan Adelson Hospice in Las Vegas, NV.
Katie shared her gratitude with Women United for the support she received to achieve her dreams. “I have gained so many wonderful memories, positive encouragement, and complete support throughout the journey of attaining my degree. Nursing has been something I have been passionate about since I was young, and this scholarship made that possible for me.” Women United helped ignite the power Katie already possessed by providing support to help expand her professional network, prepare her resume, and provide career advice.
Women United continues to make a difference in our community by striving to raise donations each year for our local students.
