CONGRESSWOMAN DINA TITUS AND UNITED WAY OF SOUTHERN NEVADA ANNOUNCE $1 MILLION INVESTMENT TO REMOVE LANGUAGE BARRIERS IN SOUTHERN NEVADA

Las Vegas, NV – With more than 14% of Nevadans born outside the U.S. the challenge to ensure all residents receive the support they need in our community is constant. To meet this need head-on, UWSN is honored to announce a $1 million investment, championed by Representative Dina Titus in Congress, that aims to remove barriers to access for Limited English Proficient Nevadans. “I am proud to announce $1 million for United Way of Southern Nevada’s Language Access Project which I secured during the Community Project Funding appropriations process,” said Rep. Dina Titus. “We are a diverse community with many languages and various degrees of English proficiency. This funding will help twelve organizations serve individuals from different backgrounds more effectively seek housing, employment, healthcare, and other assistance, creating a more inclusive Nevada and bolstering our local economy.” Since 2022, United Way of Southern Nevada has convened a Language Access collaborative with public and private representation. The partnership aims to build a more inclusive Nevada that reflects the linguistic needs of the community in order to improve and expand access to the services – increasing self-sufficiency for limited-English proficient communities and, in turn, bolstering our Southern Nevada economy. “Removing barriers to access improves self-sufficiency for limited-English proficient communities, and in turn, positively affects our economy,” said Janet Quintero, VP of External Affairs at United Way of Southern Nevada. On Wednesday, February 21st, the group will gather to detail how the grant will help expand access for Limited English Proficient Nevadans and announce the selected sub-awardees.
