LAS VEGAS — United Way of Southern Nevada (UWSN), with the support of United Way Worldwide and Verizon, continues to strengthen community resilience through its innovative ‘United We Prepare’ initiative.
This year, UWSN launched its United We Prepare: Disaster Preparedness and Community Resiliency program to help Southern Nevadans prepare for and recover from both natural and man-made disasters. Through partnerships with seven local nonprofits and community leaders, UWSN provides essential resources, including preparedness workshops, resiliency hubs, and year-round support, to help families face emergencies with confidence.
Below are the latest updates and partners powering this important work:
Resiliency Hubs
UWSN has established a pilot program to develop two new Resiliency Hubs in partnership with The After Market and Mountain Top Faith Ministries. As the designated pilot sites, these locations are working to establish the infrastructure to provide essential services year-round and expand to meet community needs during disasters or emergencies in partnership with Clark County. Each pilot site works with nonprofit organizations that offer critical support to the communities they serve.
· The After Market strengthens families by offering food, clothing, transportation assistance, and after-school programming, while stepping up during crises to deliver immediate relief and recovery support.
· Mountaintop Faith Ministries strengthens community stability through youth, family, and homeless outreach services, ensuring that neighborhoods are ready and supported when emergencies strike.
All-In Clark County
A public-private collaboration, All-In Clark County unites county agencies, nonprofits, and community partners to build resilience across Southern Nevada. UWSN works with All-In to guide the development and growth of two pilot Resiliency Hubs (The After Market and Mountaintop Faith Ministries), ensuring families have access to sustainable recovery tools to weather challenges like extreme heat, drought, and flash floods.
Rebuilding Together Southern Nevada
Through its partnership with Rebuilding Together Southern Nevada (RTSNV), UWSN helps low-income homeowners strengthen their homes and reduce vulnerability to disasters. Services include plumbing and utility repairs, roofing improvements, and fall-prevention installations, all designed to create safer living environments before, during, and after emergencies.
American Red Cross of Southern Nevada
In collaboration with the American Red Cross, UWSN offers disaster preparedness workshops that teach residents how to stay safe in emergencies. Workshops cover business continuity, extreme heat, home fire prevention, flash floods, earthquakes, and family readiness for children and adults. The Red Cross also helps develop easy-to-understand preparedness materials to reach audiences across Southern Nevada.
City of Las Vegas Certified Emergency Response Team
Partnering with the City of Las Vegas Certified Emergency Response Team (CERT), UWSN helps residents understand local risks and take action before disaster strikes. These workshops build confidence and community awareness by teaching emergency planning, household preparedness, and neighborhood safety.
US Bank
UWSN and US Bank work together to provide financial literacy and preparedness workshops, helping families to plan for the unexpected. By building financial confidence, families are better equipped to manage crises—whether natural, economic, or man-made—and achieve long-term financial stability.
Project REACH
Through Project REACH, UWSN provides financial assistance for past-due utility bills, helping seniors aged 62 and older stay cool in the extreme summer heat and warm during the winter months. This past August, UWSN hosted Project REACH Senior Expos, which offered in-person support and distributed disaster preparedness kits to attendees. Since 2021, the program has provided more than $2 million in assistance to over 8,000 seniors, helping them maintain safety, comfort, and resilience throughout the year.
