We are proud to announce that our 2016 Emerging Leadership Award for Women Scholarship recipient, Lin Martinez, has graduated with a BA in Political Science with a minor in Criminal Justice from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas! Four years ago, Lin applied for this scholarship to help her begin her college career and pursue her dream of becoming an attorney. As a first-generation college student, Lin knew that taking this brave step would help improve the lives of her daughter and family.
Lin shared what inspired her to pursue a career in the field of law, “I decided on this career because through personal experiences I have seen how much of an impact the courts can have on an individual, families, and communities. I found a passion for helping individuals in what may be one of the toughest moments in their lives.” After graduation, Lin is starting a position at the Legal Aid Center of Southern Nevada in the Pro Bono Department. While gaining on-the-job experience, Lin will continue to prepare for the LSAT.
Lin shared her gratitude with UWSN’s Women United members for the support she received throughout her college journey. “Thank you for your interest and investment in my future. Thank you for your mentorship. Thank you for your friendship. Most importantly, thank you for believing in me.” Women United members helped Lin prepare her resume, gave her career advice, and helped expand her professional network.
