Planned Giving
Creating Enduring Impact in Southern Nevada
A SIMPLE WAY TO MAKE A LASTING DIFFERENCE

Planned Giving at United Way of Southern Nevada is grounded in a simple but powerful belief: lasting impact is not defined by the size of a gift, but by the intention behind it. Through thoughtful planning, individuals from every walk of life can lift others, strengthen our community, and help ensure that Southern Nevada thrives for generations to come.
United Way is consistently recognized as one of the most trusted charitable organizations in the nation. United Way Worldwide has been ranked No. 1 on Forbes’ America’s Top Charities list for multiple years, including recent rankings, reflecting its scale of impact, financial stewardship, and public trust.
Planned gifts to the endowment provide a lasting source of support, helping United Way of Southern Nevada respond to changing community needs while honoring donor intent across generations.
Why Planned Giving Matters
Planned Giving:
- Strengthens long term financial stability for community initiatives
- Protects critical programs serving Southern Nevada
- Aligns donor values with enduring community impact
- Allows individuals to give thoughtfully without compromising present needs
Many of United Way of Southern Nevada’s most meaningful legacy commitments have come from individuals who simply cared deeply about this community.
Your role is to:
- Normalize conversations around legacy and planning
- Reinforce that Planned Giving is accessible at every level
- Emphasize that intention, not wealth, defines impact
- Connect interested individuals with United Way of Southern Nevada’s Planned Giving professionals
Planned Giving conversations are relational, not transactional.
United Way of Southern Nevada values the expertise of attorneys, CPAs, financial advisors, trust officers, and wealth managers. We do not provide legal, tax, or financial advice and always encourage donors to consult their trusted professionals.
Our role is to support charitable intent while respecting existing advisory relationships, maintaining confidentiality, and honoring client priorities.
Planned Giving can take many forms and should always align with personal, family, and financial priorities. Common pathways include:
- Bequests through a will or living trust
- Beneficiary designations on retirement accounts or insurance policies
- Gifts of appreciated assets such as securities or property
- Life income arrangements that support donors and loved ones during their lifetime
Each option is flexible and can be structured to reflect individual circumstances and charitable intent.
Leadership and Donor Perspectives

I believe in Planned Giving because it is one of the most powerful ways to ensure that the values that matter most to me continue shaping the world long after I am no longer able to make and direct specific gifts. It allows me to support the organizations that advance those values with purpose and clarity. I also believe it provides important leadership for my loved ones by leaving no guesswork about my intentions and making sure my heart is unmistakably understood.
Sam Rudd
President and Chief Executive Officer, United Way of Southern Nevada

I have been engaged with United Way since I started my banking career more than 50 years ago. I became a donor my first day of my career and led employee campaigns for the bank on several occasions. When I moved to Las Vegas in 1988 as President of First Interstate Bank of Nevada, now Wells Fargo, I engaged with United Way of Southern Nevada immediately, including serving as Chairman of the Board in the early 1990s. I returned to the Board in 2022 to again chair the Board of Directors. While continuing to be a major donor, I have recently agreed to make a significant estate gift, dedicated to United Way of Southern Nevada’s endowment, so that the organization can continue to serve our community well beyond my current engagement.
Donald Snyder
Retired Business Executive and Community Leader

As a donor for more than 40 years, I have seen firsthand how United Way of Southern Nevada uplifts individuals and families throughout our community. The organization’s commitment to creating meaningful, lasting change has always inspired me. Including United Way in my estate planning allows me to continue supporting the causes and values that have been important to me for decades. It is my way of helping ensure that their essential work carries forward for future generations
